Durability classes, explained (EN 204)

Vribond wood glues are graded on the EN 204 durability scale, which classifies water resistance from D1 (dry interior) to D4 (waterproof). Choosing the right class for the exposure is the single most important specification decision.

D1

Interior, dry. General assembly where moisture is not a factor.

D2

Interior with occasional short-term water or condensation.

D3

Interior with frequent water exposure; exterior not exposed to weather.

D4

Interior with frequent, prolonged water; exterior with weather protection.

Note: durability class refers to bond water-resistance under EN 204 test conditions. Class claims for a specific product should always be confirmed against that product current data sheet.

Working conditions

Recommended application conditions

01

Temperature

Apply and cure above ~15 degrees C for water-based glues. Cold slows set and can weaken the bond.

02

Surfaces

Bond clean, dry, dust-free and well-fitted surfaces. High moisture content in timber reduces performance.

03

Clamping

Use even pressure for the full press time. Do not stress the joint until it reaches handling strength.
